HOW WE STARTED

It was on an early evening of August, 1990, in a dimly lit cozy corner of Sundown Bar of Alfredo’s Steak House, at the corner of Tomas Morato Ave. and Dr. Lazcano St. in Barangay Laging Handa, Quezon City, Philippines, where Rtn. Noli Rivera brought up the idea of creating a club extension before then President Edi Salud of the Rotary Club of Kamuning (RoCK) and Past President Mandy Apostol also of RoCK.

Fear of disintegration was the initial reaction of both Past Presidents which was understandably so considering that the club was still in the process of rebuilding and strengthening their ranks from the effects of mass resignation.

After a while (few bottles of ice-cold beer?), Pres. Edi and Past Pres.

Mandy reconsidered their position and readily consented to the idea with the following conditions.  None of the present 47 quality member of the RoCK except for Rtn. Noli will be allowed to fill in the initial membership of the proposed extension club.  The core must come from the community to be trained and groomed by the RoCK as a true blooded Rotarian leaders of his community.  Thus, the introduction of Rtn. Xyrus Lanot, Rtn. Al Mallari and Rtn. Roy Serame into the folds of Rotary.  All sponsored by Rtn. Noli.

A year after, on September 5, 1991, the RoCK Board of Directors approved the formation of a Rotary Club to be known as the Rotary Club of South Triangle during its regular board meeting at the Kamayan Restaurant, West Avenue.  This was signed by then President Boogie Rodrigo and by then Club Secretary Titus Tajonera.  Similar endorsements were done by the Rotary Clubs of Kamuning West, Timog and Roxas.

On October 4, 1991, then District Governor Manding Gonzales of R. I. District 3780 approved the provisional status of the Rotary Club of South Triangle  in a letter to then Pres. Boogie.

Finally, on November 9, 1992, the Provisional Rotary Club of South Triangle was chartered with Rtn. Noli Rivera as its Charter President.  On this day the Rotary Club of South Triangle becomes the 26,045th member of Rotary International.
